English as a Second Language

ELL101 & ELL102 BEGINNING
Semester Course Grades 9-12 Both Courses = 5.00 Credits


This course is to help newly arrived students learn the basics of the English language. It is designed for students who have studied less than six months of English in the United States or for students who arrive mid-semester. Emphasis is on vocabulary acquisition and oral proficiency.

ELL201 & ELL202 INTERMEDIATE
Semester Course Grades 9-12 Both Courses = 5.00 Credits


This course is designed for students who have completed Introduction to English (ESL) or who have mastered the basic skills for English. Students will learn to write in complete sentences,
keep a journal, learn about fundamentals of punctuation and learn more spelling patterns as well as read short novel.

ELL300 & ELL301 ADVANCED
Semester Course Grades 9-12 Both Courses = 5.00 Credits


This class is designed for the more fluent English speaker who has or is almost ready to take regular English courses. Students will read short stories and short novels, practice writing indifferent
genres (comparison/contrast; expository; business letter; book and movie review; etc.), and engage in debates on current issues.
