Wellness and Health
Wellness Education is a required part of the total curriculum at Greenfield
High School. All students must successfully complete four years of Wellness
Education and two semesters of Health to
graduate. |
HPE800 WELLNESS A
Semester Course Grade 9 2.50 Credits
Wellness education for grade nine meets every day and is a semester
course. This course will focus on Physical Education and will include
fitness activities, as well as, instruction in soccer,
volleyball, ping-pong and badminton with emphasis on skill development and
strategy.

HEA101 HEALTH EDUCATION A
Semester Course Grade 9 2.50 Credits
Health education meets everyday for one semester course and is a graduation
requirement at Greenfield High School. Health Education 100 follows
the new State Frameworks for Health
Education in Massachusetts. Units of instruction include: Self responsibility
for Wellness, Systems of the Body, Violence Prevention, First Aid and Safety,
Nutrition and Healthful Eating, Communicable Diseases, Cardiovascular Disease
and Cancer, Chronic Health Problems, Fitness, Sexuality Education Conception
to Adulthood.

HPE810 WELLNESS B
Semester Course Grade 10 2.50 Credits
Wellness Education for grade ten is a semester course which meets every
day and will provide instruction in a variety of sports, including
basketball, softball, ultimate Frisbee, flag football, tennis,
pickleball, lacrosse, step aerobics, speedball, and floor hockey. Activities
will include sports specific warm-ups, team tactics, and cooperative spirit
in a competitive atmosphere.

Semester Course Grade 10 2.50 Credits
Health education meets every day for one semester course and is a graduation
requirement at Greenfield High School. Health Education 200 follows the new
State Frameworks for Health
Education in Massachusetts. Units of instruction include: Mental Health,
Personality, Mental Illness, Stress, Death and Dying, Drugs, Alcohol, Tobacco,
Personal Safety, Violence Prevention, Anger
Management, Community and World Health, Environmental Health, HIV/AIDS, Sexuality
Education and Pregnancy.

HPE820 WELLNESS 11/12
Semester Course Grades 11-12 2.50 Credits
Wellness 11/12 will include a variety of team sports, individual and
dual sports as well as educating students in a physical fitness program
which will carry on into adult life.
