All art courses are discipline-based which means that in these
courses you will not only be studying the production of art, but
you will also learn three other co
mponents of discipline. You will study art history, critical analysis
and aesthetics. Each will be tailored to the course being taught.

ART100 ART 1
Semester Course Grades 9-12 2.50 Credits
In this class, you will learn to draw or improve your drawing skills
using a variety of lines, shapes, values, and techniques such as perspective.
You will do basic design assignments, and learn the fundamentals of
color through painting. In addition Art 1 includes the history of art
where you will experience some of the underlying principles on which
to base your artwork. Furthermore, it includes the study of aesthetics
and criticism, which enables you to discuss your work with others.
This is an experimental class for you to discover an interest, a career,
or just another way of thinking and looking at things. Art 1 is not
only an introduction to art, but also a foundation on which other art
courses are built.

ART110
ART 2
Semester Course Grades 9-12 2.50 Credits
Prerequisite: Art 1.
Now that you understand the basics of creating art, you will explore
a number of other art areas such as commercial art, sculpture and painting.
In addition, you will be exploring more drawing in new media, and spend
time improving your techniques by making art while studying style.
Instead of an emphasis on a survey of art, however, here you will use
art to communicate your ideas and feelings expanding upon technical
information learned in Art 1. Painting, lettering, scratchboard, printing
and cartoon design are but a few of the choices available to you within
this course.

ART101 3-DIMENSIONAL
DESIGN 1
Semester Course Grades 10-12 2.50 Credits
Some students prefer to work in three-dimensional areas creating things
that are round rather than flat. In this class, you will study common
methods of making three-dimensional art in paper,
clay, wood, metal, fabric, plaster, and glass. You will also use non-traditional
materials to create art and spend some time with experimental materials.
You will study the history, aesthetics, and
criticism or evaluation of three-dimensional objects. Be aware that this
class does include drawing. You will learn how to represent three dimensions
on a flat drawing surface and be exposed to
concepts such as perspective.

ART210
ART STUDIO 1
Semester Course Grades 10-12 2.50 Credits
Art Studio 1 is an advanced course for the student who may want to pursue
art in college or for the student who wants to continue in the art
curriculum. All options are available for this course media wise. Oil
or acrylic painting, printmaking and sculpture are just some of the
many options available for individual pursuit.

ART220 ART STUDIO
2
Semester Course Grades 10-12 2.50 Credits
Art Studio 2 is an extension of Art Studio 1. The same course outline
will apply with additional emphasis on individual interests as well
as portfolio content for college.

ART230
CLAY-POTTERY 1
Semester Course Grades 9-12 2.50 Credits
Clay-Pottery 1 is an advanced course requiring much production and finished
work. In this course, students can elect pottery or clay sculpture
or both. Students will learn or refine basic hand building techniques,
develop skills in wheel-thrown pottery, learn about glazing and basic
clay sculptural techniques. You will also be introduced to the history
of ceramics and techniques from other cultures.

ART240 CLAY-POTTERY 2
Semester Course Grades 9-12 2.50 Credits
Prerequisite: Clay-Pottery 1.
Using the basic skills you learned in Clay-Pottery 1; you will now spend
time improving and refining your skills. You will choose a method of
construction or technique to concentrate on. You will also be developing
a variety of glazing techniques. This is a course that requires a disciplined
and independent student.
