Art Department

All art courses are discipline-based which means that in these courses you will not only be studying the production of art, but you will also learn three other co

mponents of discipline. You will study art history, critical analysis and aesthetics. Each will be tailored to the course being taught.

ART100 ART 1
Semester Course Grades 9-12 2.50 Credits

In this class, you will learn to draw or improve your drawing skills using a variety of lines, shapes, values, and techniques such as perspective. You will do basic design assignments, and learn the fundamentals of color through painting. In addition Art 1 includes the history of art where you will experience some of the underlying principles on which to base your artwork. Furthermore, it includes the study of aesthetics and criticism, which enables you to discuss your work with others. This is an experimental class for you to discover an interest, a career, or just another way of thinking and looking at things. Art 1 is not only an introduction to art, but also a foundation on which other art courses are built.

ART110 ART 2
Semester Course Grades 9-12 2.50 Credits

Prerequisite: Art 1.
Now that you understand the basics of creating art, you will explore a number of other art areas such as commercial art, sculpture and painting. In addition, you will be exploring more drawing in new media, and spend time improving your techniques by making art while studying style. Instead of an emphasis on a survey of art, however, here you will use art to communicate your ideas and feelings expanding upon technical information learned in Art 1. Painting, lettering, scratchboard, printing and cartoon design are but a few of the choices available to you within this course.

ART101 3-DIMENSIONAL DESIGN 1
